An Evening with Author Tracy Chevalier

Fans of historical fiction, artful storytelling and New York Times bestselling authors won’t want to miss “An Evening with Tracy
Chevalier” on Tuesday, August 3 at 7:00 p.m. at the Hudson Library & Historical Society.  The author will discuss her life and work
and answer questions from the audience. An assortment of her novels will be available for purchase and signing, provided by
The Learned Owl Book Shop.

Chevalier is best known for her 1999 international bestseller, “The Girl with the Pearl Earring,” which was turned into an Academy
Award-nominated film in 2003 and starred Colin Firth and Scarlett Johansson. Publisher’s Weekly remarked the book had “enough
historical authenticity and artistic intuition to mark Chevalier as a talented newcomer to the literary scene.” The novel received the
Barnes and Noble Discover Award and has sold almost 4 million copies worldwide.

A steady succession of popular titles followed, all based on authentic historical figures and events:  “Falling Angels” (2001),
“The Lady and the Unicorn” (2003), “Burning Bright” (2007) and most recently “Remarkable Creatures” (2009).Her fist novel,
“The Virgin Blue,” was published in 1997 and was reissued after the success of “The Girl with the Pearl Earring.”

Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Chevalier earned her B.A. in English at Oberlin College, after which she moved to England
in 1984 where she worked as a reference book editor. She received her M.A. in creative writing from the University of East
Anglia, Norwich, England in the early 1990s and has lived in London for over 20 years. She is married and has one son.

The program is free, but tickets are required. A maximum of four tickets may be picked up at the Reference Desk or the
Learned Owl Book Shop beginning Tuesday, July 5. Call the reference desk at 330-653-6658, ext. 1010
