Growing Northeast Ohio’s
High-Tech Economy
with NorTech’s Rebecca Bagley
Rebecca O.
Bagley, President and CEO of NorTech, the Northeast Ohio Technology
Coalition, will discuss “Growing Northeast
Ohio’s High-Tech Economy” on Wednesday, February 17th at
7:00 p.m. as part of the Hudson Library’s Winter/Spring 2010
Entrepreneurship Series.
Ms. Bagley will explain NorTech’s
Technology-Based Economic Development Initiatives in Northeast Ohio,
and specifically
their Advanced Energy Initiative. One of NorTech’s goals is to
accelerate commercial activity and create jobs in Northeast
Ohio’s advanced energy industry. Recently, NorTech began to
facilitate the creation of the Lake Erie Energy Development
Corporation (LEEDCo), a regional non-profit organization that will
be responsible for accelerating offshore wind deployment
in Lake Erie. Another recent project of NorTech’s is the creation of
a sustainable business strategy, operational plan, and
governance structure for a “cleantech” incubator in Warren, Ohio,
called the Technology and Business Center for Energy
Sustainability. NorTech has been instrumental in the formation and
development of several organizations that are working
to transform the economic fortunes of the region, including
BioEnterprise,
Glenn
Alliance for Technology Exchange,
JumpStart
Inc.,
Ohio Fuel
Cell Coalition, Ohio’s
Third Frontier Project and
The Ohio
Capital Fund, a new fund that will
provide $100 million in early-stage venture funding for Ohio
technology ventures.
Ms. Bagley, a
nationally recognized technology-based economic development
executive, was appointed President and
CEO of NorTech in 2009. She succeeded Dorothy C. Baunach, the
founding staff director. Previously, Rebecca served as
Deputy Secretary for the Technology Investment Office of the
Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic
Development (DCED). Before joining DCED, Rebecca worked as an
investment banker. Rebecca is currently a member of the
Board of the National Association for Seed and Venture Funds (NASVF),
an organization of innovation capital leaders in
private, public and nonprofit organizations that are committed to
building local economies by investing in local
entrepreneurs.
She holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of
Colorado at Boulder College of Business and
Administration.
