Computer classes taught in the Computer Center of the Hudson Library & Historical Society are designed to introduce participants to computers, the Internet, its contents, and its uses. The Computer Center is located on the second floor.

 BASIC PHOTO EDITING WORKSHOP
 
Handouts: Photo Editing Functions ; Photo Formats ; Setting Up an Account ; Using Photoshop
Have you been wanting to edit the digital photos you’ve taken--to remove the red eye, to lighten the under-exposed shots, or to crop out the distracting background--but you don’t want to spend $$ on purchasing photo-editing software?  This class will cover these basic photo editing tasks as well as touchup, rotating, sharpening, and converting to black & white using a FREE web-based program available at www.photoshop.com.   Prerequisite:  Those who sign up for this class should have their own email account and be familiar with uploading and downloading files to/from the internet.


 BEGINNING COMPUTERS-OVERVIEW
This class is for the new computer user or someone who is looking to upgrade from their older computer. Tips, tricks, recommendations, reviews and resources will be part of this hour long presentation.


 BEGINNING COMPUTERS-MOUSE BASICS & Beyond the 'Right Click'
This class is for the new computer user.


 BEGINNING COMPUTERS-KEYBOARDING & Beyond 'ESC'
This class is for the computer user who would like more practice with they keyboard and the quick key tips and tricks.


 BEGINNING COMPUTERS-Internet Basics
This class is for the new computer user.  Learn how to surf safely, how to keep your computer safe and find out about the latest software for browsing.


 BEGINNING COMPUTERS-Files & Folders
The computer class is designed for the new computer user. Learn how to Save, Search For and Find all of the information stored on the hard drive and other storage devices associated with your computer.


 BEGINNING POWERPOINT 2007 - Overview
This class is designed for the computer user who is familiar with using a computer such as mouse skills; saving and opening files; cutting & pasting; using pictures or who has taken the Beginning Computers and/or Beginning Word.  PowerPoint is part of the Microsoft Office suite used for visual presentations.


 BEGINNING POWERPOINT 2007 - Special Functions
This class is designed for the computer user who is familiar with using PowerPoint 2007 and would like to learn more about creating dynamic professional presentations.


 BEGINNING WORD 2007 -Overview
Learn the basics of Word- This class is designed for the computer user who is familiar with using a computer such as: mouse skills, saving and opening files or has attended the Beginning Computer series.


 BEGINNING WORD 2007-Special Functions
Learn  about toolbars, the menu bars and special functions available. This class is designed for the computer user who is familiar with Word 2007 and would like to learn about the additional features.

HOW TO CREATE A HOLIDAY NEWSLETTER IN PUBLISHER 2007
This class will show you how to use Microsoft Publisher to design your holiday newsletter.  Learn how to place your photos, insert titles and text boxes on a page layout so that you have a decorative and informative letter to send to family and friends!  (prerequisite: students signing up for this class must have taken "Introduction to Microsoft Publisher" class or have familiarity with creating/manipulating graphic objects in Publisher.)


INTRODUCTION TO PUBLISHER  2007
Learn the basics of Publisher--the toolbars, the menu bars; inserting, deleting, copying, re-sizing, and manipulating text and objects.  Participants will be shown the various applications of Publisher, a versatile program used for newsletters, greeting cards, flyers and other graphic design applications.  The prerequisites are basic mouse skills and some familiarity with other Microsoft software or have taken the Beginning Computer series.


 ORGANIZING YOUR COMPUTER (& EMAIL) with Windows Explorer    Class Handout
Is your computer cluttered?  Is your 'Inbox' overflowing?  Have you lost items on your hard drive or in your email box?  This is the class for you!  Participants will be shown how to use Windows Explorer to organize files and folders on their computers, plus how to use their 'electronic filing cabinet' more efficiently.  These organizational skills will also be demonstrated on how to organize email folder for greater efficiency.

Have you been noticing those hardbound photobooks that make wonderful keepsakes of memories captured on a digital camera?  Want to make a photobook of your own with photos of your precious grandbaby, or your daughter's dance recital, or your son's athletic season, or your parents' wedding anniversary celebration, or some other special memory?  If your answers are YES, come and learn how you can become a photobook author using FREE software! (note: purchase of a photobook is optional).

Prerequisite:  Students should know how to use a computer, how to access, open, close, and save files, and how to use a mouse.  Students should bring with them a CD or thumb drive containing at least 10 digital photos.

 

Computer classes taught in the Computer Center of the Hudson Library & Historical Society are designed to introduce participants to computers, the Internet, its contents, and its uses.

The Computer Center is located on the second floor.  Class size is limited. Registration is required by
registering in person at the Reference Desk with a $5/per class refundable deposit.
If class size is below minimum, the class will be cancelled and attendees will be notified 3 days to the class.
There is a 48 hour cancellation requirement for the return of the $5 deposit.
